1.) cuts & scratches
Treatment depends on how large and deep the cut or scratch is. If there is any sign of blood on the dog, look carefully and once you have located the cut, clip sufficient hair around it to expose the wound. If the cut looks deep or longer than about a centimeter(1/2 inch), It will need attention and probably, a stitch or two at the veterinary surgeon. A minor cut or a scratch that does not penetrate the skin, will usually need very little treatment. Soothing cream will be sufficient. A tube of Hi max should be kept at home.

2.) SORES AND RASHES
A dog may get sore or rash through chewing itself or from insect bites. Sores and rashes remain hidden under the dog coat for sometime before they become visible to the eyes. Thus, the dog should be checked regularly for sores and rashes. In the case of sores and rashes. The dog should be immediately taken to the vet.

3.) BITES
Dog bites will often become infected. This is particularly the case when the bite causes a puncture wound. The dog should be taken to the veterinary surgery within twenty-four hours to allow the vet to assess whether antibiotic injections are needed. Prior to that, the wound may be cleansed with an antiseptic lotion.

4.) CHOKING
Some dogs are compulsive pickers of sicks and stones or ball chasers. This type of incident requires a trip to the vet and sedation to remove the object.

5.) CAUTION
An ill or injured dog may bite the owner/doctor while giving treatment. Loop a necktie or a bandage around his muzzle and make a knot under the jaw.This will also prevent the dog from licking the medicines applied to the wound.
